After purchasing the Tahbilk property in 1927, the Purbrick family began shaping not only the future of the winery but also the beauty of its surrounding gardens. In the 1930s, 2nd Generation Tahbilk Custodian Eric Stevens Purbrick returned from England with his young family to take up residence at the homestead, marking the beginning of a new era of life, colour, and care within the historic grounds.
Today, the Homestead Garden reflects over a century of evolution and dedication. You’ll find towering trees planted as far back as the 1860s — many protected by the National Trust of Australia — alongside native species and a handful of rare, precious plantings that tell their own stories of time and endurance.
Throughout the tour, Head Gardener Travis McCarty will share how each generation of the Purbrick family has influenced and nurtured the garden, as well as the ongoing work to preserve this remarkable landscape for future generations.
After exploring the homestead gardens, relax and enjoy a two-course lunch at the Tahbilk Estate Restaurant, paired with a glass of current vintage Tahbilk wine.
Please note: The Tahbilk Estate Garden Tour & Lunch is weather-dependent, as the safety and comfort of guests and staff remain our top priority.
